This is a banjo player’s dream! Allen is truly one of the legends of the five string banjo. He played banjo with Grand Ole Opry stars Jim and Jesse McReynolds, as well as Jim Eanes and many others. His distinctive right-hand roll and timing, his creative and tasteful “licks,” his innovative style and song choices all mark him as one of the greats. Allen and Chuck sat informally in Shelton’s living room one night in Louisiana in 1969 and jammed while Chuck’s dad, Jim Nation, recorded with his reel-to-reel tape recorder and a big Electro Voice microphone. This never before heard high quality recording was discovered after having been sitting on a shelf for years! It was mastered to digital to preserve this unique moment in banjo history.
